We are given a clear definition of faith in Hebrews 11:1,
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
The act of and evidence of true faith manifests itself in four ways:
1) Total renouncing of "self."
2) Complete confidence in Christ.
3) Unwaivering obedience.
4) A changed life.
First - you must choose Christ. You must give up control and resign as captain of your own life. God says He will not forgive you, He will not transform you, He will not give you the peace and joy that you search for, until you choose between your sins and Jesus Christ. The moment you turn from your sins and turn to Christ, you are forgiven. By renouncing "self," Christ is then able to come into your heart and give you the power to overcome sin.
Second - you must rely completely on and have utter confidence in Jesus Christ. Everyone can have this confidence. Jesus simply said, "Believe." Anyone can believe. Even though we can not physically see Him, we can believe in Jesus Christ and rely upon Him.
Third - you must be obedient; and obedience implies action. You must be faithful in reading your Bible, in praying; you must be faithful in putting into practice the teachings of Jesus Christ in your daily life. If Christ dwells in you, your life, your actions, will give evidence of His presence in your life.
Fourth - there must be a conversion, or a change in your life. Every one of us is faced with the choice to either accept, or reject, Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3).
Conversion takes place when you turn your back on sin and you follow Christ.
Many people say that they believe in religion, they believe in God, they believe in Christ, but they have never committed themselves and their lives to Jesus Christ.
If you have never surrendered yourself to Jesus Christ by faith, there is no peace in your soul. Christ wants to give you that peace (John 14:27).
Why not receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour today? Let Him bring peace and joy to your soul. Let Him change your life. He CAN do it and He WILL do it - as soon as you put your faith in Him.
God bless you.
